TENSION SPRING
DEFINITION :
The function of tension springs is to return to their original state after stretching.
They stretch when they are subjected to a force.
Then return to their original shape after the constraint is removed.
They are often used as return springs and are for example used for garage doors or systems for the agricultural sector.
The ends of these springs are finished with different types of loops:
“English” loop: centered in the spring axis
“German” loop: single or double, pulling on one side
Extended, lateral, rotating or screwed hook
End caps screwed/crimped into the spring
MANUFACTURING PROCESS :
Small run (<250 parts), Medium run (<400,000 parts)
Automatic production: wire from 0.1 to 8 mm
RDO Springs produces several billion tension springs annually
CALCULATIONS – PLANS – TECHNICAL QUOTATION :
Springs with standard loops are not complicated to make. However, depending on the load-resistance characteristics, they must be set out in a plan sent to our design office in order to check the dimensions when they are subjected to these same loads.
Numerous useful aspects are required to manufacture it, including wire and inner diameters, winding directions, loads to be taken up/released and the different effective lengths.
Once the plan is completed and transmitted, our Design Office will
check the dimensions and call you back if necessary.
Tests are then conducted to verify that the requested characteristics can be validated on initial samples
EQUIPMENT :
RDO Springs has :
Dozens of very modern manufacturing machines to produce these springs.
Several recent software programs to calculate dimensions and static and dynamic loads on springs,
All the necessary control instruments to check the required dimensions (shadowgraph, measurements taken via imaging, 2D LED, 3D LED, etc.)
FINAL TREATMENT OF THE MANUFACTURED SPRING :
Several million combinations are possible depending on the mechanical characteristics required on the dimensions or the resistances.
To ensure that a spring meets your requirements over time, heat treatments (ovens) are performed. Chemical treatments can also be performed (tribofinishing or passivation) in order to guarantee these characteristics over time.
RDO Springs has two modern production lines for these operations.
Subcontracting operations (painting, cataphoresis and chemical treatments) can be performed by a subcontractor located near our manufacturing facility.
