COMPRESSION SPRING
DEFINITION :
A compression spring is a mechanical part that releases the force imposed on it when the pressure disappears (or returns to its initial position without load).
The force released by the spring is linear and depends on two factors.
Deflection imposed on the spring,
Its stiffness or hardness (expressed in N/mm)
MANUFACTURING PROCESS :
Unit
Small run (<250 parts), Medium run (<400,000 parts) or Large run
Automatic production: wire from 0.1 to 8 mm
RDO Springs produces several billion compression
springs annually
CALCULATIONS – PLANS – TECHNICAL QUOTATION :
A compression spring comprises about 50 interacting characteristics, five of which are absolutely necessary for its design (dimensions: free length, wire diameter and grade, outer diameter and number of coils).
These dimensions are indicated on the Excel file that you can download here and fill in with your required dimensions.
Once the plan is completed and transmitted, our Design Office will
check the dimensions and call you back if necessary.
Tests are then conducted to verify that the requested characteristics can be validated on initial samples.
EQUIPMENT :
RDO Springs has :
Dozens of very modern manufacturing machines to produce these springs, including a line dedicated to face grinding (flattening of the ends).
Several recent software programs to calculate dimensions and static and dynamic loads on springs.
All the necessary control instruments to check the required dimensions (shadowgraph, measurements taken via imaging, 2D LED, 3D LED, etc.).
RDO Springs has two modern production lines for these operations.
Subcontracting operations (painting, cataphoresis and chemical treatments) can be performed by a subcontractor located near our manufacturing facility.
Several million combinations are possible depending on the mechanical characteristics required on the dimensions or the resistances.
To ensure that a spring meets your requirements over time, heat treatments (ovens) are performed. Chemical treatments can also be performed (tribofinishing or passivation) in order to guarantee these characteristics over time
OUR RECOMMENDATIONS :
The manufacture of compression springs is based on several international standards that define tolerances and the standard manufacturing process.
